Secret behind YIFY torrents and other torrents that how there compress 1080p into small size is "Encoding"(I Recommend HandBrake Tool to Encoding (or) Any Video Converter)
Virtually all video and audio files have been encoded with some compression method, like DivX or MP3 and when we want to "open" these files, we need to decode that compressed.
Why x264(Better compression Format) is preferred:
x264 is a free software library for encoding video streams into the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC format. It is released under the terms of the GNU General Public License. It is widely used in compressing movies i.e. 700mb to 300mb
and size increase with movie length.(I recommend .Mkv than .Avi )
Filesize = bitrate x running time.
AAC:
Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) is a standardized, lossy compression and encoding scheme for digital audio. Designed to be the successor of the MP3 format, AAC generally achieves better sound quality than MP3 at similar bit rates.
VIDEO BTRATE:(High bitrate->Large size and vise versa)
The bit rate is quantified using the bits per second (bit/s or bps) unit, often in conjunction with an SI prefix such as kilo- (kbit/s or kbps), mega- (Mbit/s or Mbps), giga- (Gbit/s or Gbps) or tera- (Tbit/s or Tbps).
keep one thing in MIND , for High Resolution KEEP Bitrate higher[not greater than original & not equal to original].
Some examples:-
Resolution Bitrate(KBPS)
480x360 230-250
640x272 300-320
720x480 330-350
1280x544 400
More video's you will encode you will become Expert in setting bitrate.
I use handbrake tool to Encode movies,In this current tutorial i will show you how i reduced a video size from 105 MB to 20MB without loosing much quality.
Step 1: Download and install Handbrake you will definitely face some problem regarding installation because it need .NET FRAME WORKS
Step 2: Drag and Drop the video into Handbrake Tool(i'm Explaining with a video song named "Call me may be")Choose your your Screen Resolution.
Step 3:Click on Video and Choose Video Codec x26.and Click on start.
Step 4: I got this result ,After Encoding.

Encoding Plays Major Role in Compressing a movie without loosing quality,so let's Start this session with some basics....
ENCODING:In video editing and production video encoding is the process of preparing the video for output, where the digital video is encoded to meet proper formats and specifications for recording and playback through the use of video encoder software. Also called video conversion.
